FEBRUARY 2017 NEWS
One of the things that we do quite well at is giving. For the size of our congregation, we seem to be able to help others through offerings. . .and not just money! Read on:
When we saw that there was an opportunity to recycle our Christmas cards at Marks & Spencer, who are working with the Woodland Trust to plant a tree in the UK for every 1,000 Christmas cards they received for recycling, we put a call out for everyone to bring their cards to the church where we would count them before taking them into M&S. Well, we collected 2004 cards! That's 2 trees to be planted through our recycling giving.
And then on Sunday, 29th January, we held our annual Leprosy Mission Sunday. In the service we looked at the work The Leprosy Mission was doing at the Purulia Hospital in West Bengal and what it wanted to do to improve the hospital. We always have a meal after the service and the money we would have used to buy a meal out, goes into a retiring offering which is added to the offering taken during the service. This year we were able to send £300 to The Leprosy Mission.
We give to bless, to honour God and to change the world!
